Kia ora and welcome to my Manaiakalani-Google Class OnAir site. This is my third year teaching in a 1-1 digital learning environment, and at Pt England School in Auckland, New Zealand.

I teach Year 5 ākonga (learners) who each have a Chromebook as a tool for learning.

The learners follow a Learn-Create-Share pedagogy. They collaborate in a number of different groups which require use of key competencies and a range of skills and strategies.

Term 1: Kaitiakitanga i ngā wā katoa: Respect

This term our focus is on Respect. In particular, we are focusing on how we can respect our environment, Kaitiakitanga i ngā wā katoa. We will be exploring such topics as the importance of picked up rubbish and recycling, and the effect rubbish can have on our environment. We will look at personal decisions we can make to respect our environment in which we live.

Term 2: I like to move it!

This term our inquiry is around a section of the learning area of Science called The Physical World. In particular, we are focusing on how things move, forces and flight.

Term 3: Move Ya' Body

This term we are inquiring into movement of the body. The inquiry is focused on the learning area of Health and Physical Education. In particular, we are focusing on cooperative vs competitive activities and how they can support our health (physical and mental well being).

Term 4: Te Wā Toi (Art Time) | Manaiakalani Film Festival | Athletics

Our term 4 inquiry is about visual art. In particular, we are focusing on understanding visual arts in a variety of cultural contexts whilst exploring a range of art-making conventions.

This term we also have our annual Manaiakalani Film Festival as well as Athletics Day.
