Kia ora and welcome to my Manaiakalani Google Class OnAir episodes for 2019. This is my fourth year teaching in a 1-1 Digital learning environment and I am currently teaching at Pt England School in Auckland, New Zealand.
I teach year 7/8 students who use Chromebooks to access their learning. I work in a team of 5 teachers and we have different classes for different areas of the curriculum. You will see a range of lessons from each of these classes.
You will see me facilitate lessons to the whole class and to small groups. These groups often change as they are needs based.
This year I am focussing on generating more discussion and debate in my classroom.
Please feel free to contact me using the information below.
Term 1: Ko Wai Au
This term our focus is on discovering more about our identity by looking at our past (whakapapa), present (identity) and future (careers).
Term 2: I Like your Latitude
This term, our focus is on our place in the world. We have combined social studies and computational thinking to allow the students to explore different continents, countries and our geographical location in New Zealand.
Term 3: Genomics
This term, we are participating in a Genomics unit lead by Dr. Janie Van Hees. We are covering the living world, starting with evolution and the tree of life and later looking at cellular structure.
Term 4: Life's a Stage
This term, we are continuing with our Genomics study as well as exploring the Performing Arts.
