Kia ora and welcome to my Manaiakalani Google Class OnAir episodes for 2020. I am currently teaching a year 3 & 4 class at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rito, in Ōtaki, New Zealand. We are a full immersion school, our entire curriculum and teaching instruction is in Te Reo Māori, along with all of our communication.

I have 15 wonderful tamariki in my classroom, each of them have access to their own school supplied iPad. We are at the beginning of our journey of using these tools to assist in our learning, so please join us while we navigate our way through this new and exciting chapter.

Ki te hiahia koe te whakapā mai, if you'd like to get in contact with me, please feel free to using the email and blog information provided.

Term 1: Kaitiakitanga o te Wai - Tangaroa & Maru

This term our focus is on kaitiakitanga  o te wai or guardianship of water, and how we do this in our school, homes, and community.

Term 2: Kaitiakitanga o te Whēnua - Ko Papatūānuku

Our overall focus for the term is on kaitiakitanga  or guardianship of the land, of Papatūānuku. We also touch on our return to the classroom after being at home in Aotearoa - New Zealand's Level 4 & 3 Nationwide Lockdown. There is a lot of relearning how to interact and socialise with each other, which is also something we focussed on. Being kind.

Term 3: Kaitiakitanga o Ranginui rāua ko Tawhirimātea

Our overall focus for the term is on kaitiakitanga  or guardianship of the sky, Ranginui and one of his sons, Tawhirimātea. We learn about the Earths four spheres, their interconnectedness, and what we can do as Kaitiaki for them.

Term 4: Kaitiakitanga - Mahuika rāua ko Tamanui-te-rā

Our overall focus for the term is on kaitiakitanga  or guardianship. We're looking at the Māori atua Mahuika, goddess of fire, and Tamanui-terā, the sun. We'll be explore these atua through the pūrakau of Maui.

This term we will also be using the app Explain Everything for the first time, and we're really excited!
