Episode 9 - Kupu Waiwai .mp4

Direct Instruction /  Te Akoranga

The learning intentions for this lesson was for the students to be able to read a high frequency word and comprehend its meaning by using it in 3 different ways.

Ko te tino whainga o te akoranga nei ko te pānui i tētahi kupu waiwai me te mārama ki te tikanga o taua kupu mā te whakamahi i roto i ngā ngohe e 3.

This video shows one reading group being given a high frequency word, chosen at random, then doing 3 different small activities to consolidate that word.

E whakaatu ana tēnei kiriata i tētahi rōpū pānui e whiriwhiri noa ana i tētahi kupu waiwai, kātahi he mahi i ngā ngohe poto e 3 kia ū rawa taua kupu.

Reflection / Arotake

This was a great lesson to do with such a small group. One of these 3 girls isn't an overly confident reader so this was a fun way to make it a bit more enjoyable and not so daunting with such a small group. This is something I'd like to do with some of my higher-level readers but with kupu hou (new words) just as another way of comprehending words.

Things to note

This is one of my lower reading levels, they are reading at Ngā Kete Kōrero level Harakeke E - Harakeke I.

There are a few kids missing from this group.

The camera angle wasn't the best. Mō taku hē.
