Direct Instruction / Te Akoranga
This is a two-part lesson. This is part one.
The learning intentions for this lesson was for the students to learn about the 4 spheres of the Earth and what they consist of.
Ko te tino whainga o te akoranga nei ko te ako mō ngā pūnaha e wha o te Ao, he aha hoki ngā ahuatanga o ia mea.
This video shows an introduction into the four spheres, and a discussion around what falls into each sphere.
E whakaatu ana tēnei kiriata i ngā kōrero whakamārama tuatahi mō ngā pūnaha o te Ao, ōtira he whakawhitinga kōrero mō ngā mea me ngā ahuatanga o ia pūnaha.
Reflection / Arotake
The ideas and discussions we had on some of the things and which sphere they fall into was really interesting to have. Theres a conversation that was removed from this video because of noise and clarity but it was a question about trees and which sphere they call into. It actually ended with me letting them know that I'll do a bit more investigating. The sitting and talking does get a bit boring, so it could've been shorter but the follow up activity* does help.
*The following episodes ties in a quick visual activity that gets the kids a bit more interested and involved.
Things to note
I did a very simple introduction the week before but only with a handful of kids due to New Zealand returning to Covid Alert Level 2.
