We talk about what the idea of a design mash-up is and I have examples to show them what I mean
The students responded well to this activity. Some of them went off on their own directions and came up with ideas of their own while others used my examples to start them off. I don't mind this happening if it gets them more confidence to start off with.
On the class site, it is Task 4.
The students pick one out of the inspiration pictures and one out of the object pictures folders. They then use them as the starting points for their mash-ups. If they don't like any of these, they can choose their own pictures to use.
These are the mash-ups that the students started during the first lesson.
