This lesson, titled Sell Us Your Book, involves students selecting a book of their choice to read, then creating a presentation or pitch to persuade others to buy or read it. The lesson includes several components and was conducted over a two-week period.
Reflection
This lesson sequence took considerable time and required students to self-monitor, which some found challenging. As a result, a few struggled to complete the task within the two-week timeframe. However, allowing students to choose their own books increased engagement, and their enthusiasm during presentations was encouraging.
The discussion prompt, “What makes a character's actions feel right or wrong, and who gets to decide?” was initially difficult for students. With some scaffolding, they began to connect with the question, and discussion improved noticeably.
Overall, the lesson was successful, and I plan to use it again. Next time, I’ll include more structured support and time checkpoints to help students manage the workload and engage more confidently.
