Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was:

In this lesson, children explore a character’s feelings, motivations, and decisions through a drama-based activity called Hot Seat. This involves students taking on the role of a character from the text and responding to thoughtful, relevant questions posed by their peers.

As a follow-up, students act out a scene from the text, staying in character to further develop their understanding of the story and its themes.

The video captures the setup of the lesson, including my introduction and modelling of the Hot Seat activity, followed by the students giving it a go themselves.
