Reflection

Despite a frustrating start due to technical issues—particularly my microphone not working—I was genuinely impressed with how the lesson unfolded. Initially, I didn’t have high expectations for the creative output, as I anticipated the children might find using Piskel challenging. However, they completely exceeded those expectations. Every pair produced thoughtful, imaginative mascots and were able to clearly articulate the reasoning behind their choices. One group designed a cheetah, explaining it symbolised strength and speed, qualities they associated with soldiers. Another pair created a duckling inspired by the Gosling from The Wild Robot, linking its comforting presence in the story to the role of a wartime mascot. Their engagement, creativity, and ability to connect ideas across texts was a real highlight.
