The learning intention for this lesson was to;

Understand how Olympic symbols have changed over time to reflect different cultures and the changing world.

This term we have a focus on the Olympic Games. Students have been learning about the history of the games, events, athletes and the social impacts of the Games.

Reflection

I think the lesson went well, the students were engaged and seemed to really enjoy creating their new symbols. I think that I didn't need to teach about the mascots, medals and torches all in one lesson. It would have been better to delve into one of these areas in more depth, to allow for richer discussions. I felt rushed moving between the different symbols and don't think I took enough time to reflect on the different cultures that have previously hosted the Olympic Games.

Next Steps

If I were to teach this lesson again, I think I would spend more time analysing how the symbols have changed over time, and the relationship they have to their host country.
