The learning intention for this lesson was to;

Select an appropriate text type for purpose and audience.
Understand the purposes for writing and how to achieve those purposes.

This was the first lesson in our writing unit on information reports. The purpose of this lesson was to introduce to students the purpose of information reports, and to teach them about important text features of information reports.

Reflection

I was happy with the sequence of this lesson and the ones that followed. I felt that my students had a really good understanding of what an information report was and the purpose behind them. In their completed reports it was evident they had taken on their learning and applied this to their finished product.

Next Steps

If I were to teach this unit of work again I would spend more time teaching my students how to research and how to apply this research to their writing. Many found it hard to research information online and then take that information and put it into their own words. I believe this would have been a good skill to spend more time explicitly teaching.
