Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was to;

The video shows a workshop reading group. We spend some time unpacking the various texts and having a discussion. The theme of the reading session was 'impact', this is discussed frequently and used as the theme to guide our workshop. The students use google drawings and google slides to complete their follow up and create tasks.

Extended Lesson Plan

Reflection

I think that my planning for this lesson was too ambitious for the time that we had. This lesson sequence was planned across 3 days.  I would have liked to have had at least another session with the students where I could have delved deeper and thought critically about the topic, as it felt quite rushed at points. However, the students seemed to enjoy the topic and a lot of them were keen to share their thinking and ideas. They enjoyed learning about the Sherpa People and their involvement in Sir Edmund Hillary’s climb.

In regards to my filming - next time I would like to position my cameras differently so that I can see all of the workshop group more easily. I found the space tricky to navigate at times, so will test out another space to film in for next time. The space that I am in has 50 students working in it. I need to be conscious of that when filming and ensure noise levels don’t get too loud. I also had some issues with the voice recorder. Next time I need to ensure it is working correctly and students are sitting close enough to the recorder to hear their voice.
