Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was to understand what Kawa of Care is and to identify key points of the Kawa of Care for students when using or moving their chrome book.

The video shows tamariki engaging in a whole group Learn, Create Share lesson. This lesson includes a deep dive into the Kawa of Care text where students grow their understanding of their role and responsibilities with Kawa of Care.

The lesson is concluded by tamariki creating a comic strip to show their understanding of the correct ways to use and move their chrome books.

Reflection

I felt like there was a lot of talking to tamariki in this lesson. Although this appeared to have been one sided as their exit tickets showed that they enjoyed the group discussions and sharing the text with a friend, I would like to include more movement or student practice in future lessons.

During the pick a path, I noticed that some tamariki were not reading the text, they we guessing. This meant that there was no consolidation of their learning and it showed in their create tasks. Next time I will use mote so tamariki have the option of having the text read to them.

Since running this lesson, there has been a vast improvement in the implementation of Kawa of Care from all tamariki. I have also noticed them prompting each other to show Kawa of Care.
