Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was for students to be able to use clues from the text to infer meaning. Students needed to also think about the author's purpose for writing the text.

This lesson shows a guided reading session with a small group of students where they are asked to read the text and answer questions related to what they have read. This lesson also shows the discussion we had during this reading session. Finally this lesson shows the students creating their own GIFs and answering questions about what they have read as a group.

Reflection

I thought that this lesson went really well. There were lots of really great discussions with this group. This group had a bit of a change up this week with changes made from testing so it was really great to see different discussions happening among the group and different thoughts and ideas come through. I found that this group really engaged with the text and were able to find the main ideas from the story. One thing that I think worked really well this week was having the students read the text before coming and having a guided reading session as they were really prepared when it came to our guided reading session. I really enjoyed the discussion that we had this week when reading and I felt that the students were starting to think outside the box when reading and were able to answer those inferential questions well. Using GIFs as a follow up task is something that we have just recently added and I think this is a great way for the students to infer the meaning of some of the parts of the text that we are reading, plus they love using photopea which is a bonus. Overall I really enjoyed teaching this lesson and the students were really engaged with the content.

Things to note

I have a lot of morning light in my classroom which can hinder viewing with the camera which is why my teaching table is in the middle of the classroom. I normally use some paper to black out the windows but because we haven't had much sun lately I thought it would be a shame to block the natural light. I had the students read the text before coming to see me so that they could inhance our discussions I also mixed it up this week with having the students read the text in their head during
