Reflection
I thought that this lesson went really well, the students loved completing the research of Samoan designs and then also creating this piece of art. I thought that I had planned really well for this lesson but as I was going along I thought of some other ideas that I would like to show in the art work that the students were creating so there are a few elements that were last minute additions. That is the really great thing with an art lesson is that you can add ideas and variations to it as you are going. Initially I had just decided to complete the artwork on a piece of paper and that was it but throughout the lesson as the students were researching the patterns and designs I decided that it would be a nice touch to add dye to the art and give the students the choice to scrunch up the artwork to make it look more authentic. The students really understood the rules for repeating patterns and this can be seen in their follow up tasks as well as the amazing pieces of art that they created in the process. Overall I think this was a great lesson and was fun to add a create element into the maths lesson.
Things to note
This lesson was filmed over multiple days and had a few changes along the way which is why it may seem a bit disjointed in places. I have shown the key highlights and teaching moments from part of the lesson that I think was important to show case. Again I have been experimenting with using my phone as a second camera as I feel like it can capture better angles and be less of a hinderance in the lesson so there are some angles that are a bit off or a bit shaky. The students created two blog posts for this task which I have linked in separate links under each student.
