Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was for students to write quality blog comments in response to some of the Manaiakalani Film Festival movies.

This lesson shows a whole class lesson on how to create a quality blog comment. This whole class session shows an example of the quality blog. This lesson also shows the students working in small groups watching a movie then creating a positive blog comment.

Reflection

I really enjoyed this lesson with the students as we were able to explore some of the Manaiakalani Film Festival movies as well as discuss some of the key components of a quality blog comment. The students were really engaged with this lesson and were excited to start watching the movies and creating comments to go with them. This is always an exciting time of year as the students are able to watch movies of themselves and see the comments from other students coming in as well as getting to share comments and watch others movies. I think that the students worked really well together to select movies to comment on. They were also thinking about the movies in detail and having discussions about what were their favourite parts. Overall I think this lesson went really well, the students loved it and we got some great comments from the students.

Things to note

I would have loved to add the whole lesson for this as there is so many elements to setting this up in the classroom but that would have been way too long so I have just added parts of each section and have provided all of the resources I used in my extended plan. This was filmed on the day after the Manaiakalani Film Festival and the students were very excited so there is a lot of background noise especially when the students are working in groups.

This week is the 16th annual Manaiakalani Film Festival and we have been lucky enough to go and watch our movies at Hoyts Sylvia Park. We are now going to create quality blog comments in response to the Manaiakalani Film Festival movies.

Go through some of the example reviews with Miss Parrant.
Complete a quaility blog comment as a class in response to one of the Manaikalani Film Festival movies.
Go through and watch some of the Manaiakalani Film Festival movies and create your own quaility blog comments.
