Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was for students to understand the elements of exercise as well as the importance of warming up and cooling down before and after exercise. 

This lesson shows a whole class lesson around different ways to warm up our bodies before exercise, some fun games and activities to play and then some different ways to cool down our bodies after exercise. This lesson then shows students working in small groups to create their own exercise routine to share with the rest of the class and also on their blogs.

Reflection

I think that this lesson went really well. The students were really engaged with the content and were excited to create their own exercise routine. I had previously completed a similar lesson as a rotation with the rest of the team but added some extra elements with my class to see if I could extend their learning even further and got some great results. The students worked really well together in their groups as they were self selected and they were working with others that they really wanted to work with. One thing I would do differently would be to note down who was working in each group as they seemed to change over the course of the students creating the routines and there were some students who didn't know what group they were in. 

Things to note

We have a lot going on in and around the school at the moment with cross country training and Manaiakalani film festival filming so our space is a little bit more restless than usual. There is also a lot more background noise than normal with other classes out and about around the school. Unfortunately we ran out of time before posting this video onto the Class OnAir site I didn't get a chance to have the students share their ideas with each other but they had so much fun creating the fitness routines and sharing these on their blogs.

Instructions

This week we are going to be creating our very own fitness routine to share with others in our classroom. You will need to think about creating a warm up, a game or activity and finally a cool down. You will be able to work in a group and will be sharing this with the rest of the class at the end of the week!
