Direct Instruction

Learning Intention -  Learn multiple strategies to solve 2 digit multiplication problems.

Students will learn 2 different ways to solve 2 digit multiplication problems. E.g 24 x 6 =.

We then looked at more advanced problems like 28 x 12.

The follow up activity was learners explaining the way they solved these in a video.

Reflection

I normally start the lesson in maths with a word problem.  My learners find comprehending word problems quite difficult, especially understanding what equation to use.  I had a couple of conversations with my learners throughout this lesson around place value, it is really important that they understand this for the algorithms.  My next lesson I will continue working on multiplying 2 digit numbers with each other.

Things to note

Sorry about the angle, you are unable to see the modelling book I was using, if you go to 4:44 in the video I show you what we have been doing in the modelling book.  Next maths lesson I will use the white board to make the viewing experience easier.
