Direct Instruction
Learning Intention - To search for clues within the text. To read between the lines to understand the hidden meaning not directly stated in the text.
Students read the text 'How Cars Changed the World', we read the text and answered comprehension questions. We then had a discussion based around the past and future.
We then went spoke about what a mechanic was and went and looked at my car and learned about some basic things about looking after a car. We planned questions and rang my Dad 'Mr Moran senior' (mechanic) and asked him our questions.
Reflection
This was a fun lesson that I would normally do over 2 days. I realised my learners had a misconception of 50km/h, I decided to talk about this more and what the speed signs mean. As I was talking I noticed about the window a 25km/h speed bump outside our school which was perfect to talk about. After my learners had completed this lesson I thought that they could've made a movie explaining how to check a car, they could've talked about the oil, water and battery. This would've been great as it would've been rewindable for my learners and others that viewed their blog.
Things to note
This video is just over 8 minutes, a little bit longer than I usually do, however, I really wanted to add the part of us outside and what my learners were doing when they were checking the car. Unfortunately the audio when we FaceTimed my Dad wasn't great as I usually use my phone for the audio in my lessons.
