WALT -Ā How to solve the value of a letter using algebraic equations.
Learners will be working on solving what the value of a letter is in these equations.Ā Students could already solve problems like this:Ā 6š„ + 8 = 24
The next step was for them to be able to solve problems with brackets.
4(6x + 8) +4 = 156
After the lesson I spent time explaining the activity to my learners.Ā Ā
Reflection
This was a fun lesson, as you can see my learners have really started to enjoy and engage with algebra.Ā There is a lot of excitement around answering problems and challenging ourselves to solve more difficult problems.Ā My learners struggled with the concept of BEDMAS, we had to go back over this multiple times, they slowly started learning the rule of BEDMAS.Ā My learners have enjoyed challenging themselves with more questions with brackets and we will look at incorporating equations with multiple brackets, it's great to see our learners wanting to challenge themselves with more difficult questions.
Things to note
Algebra use to be a subject I use to avoid, I struggled with this subject at high school and had a bit of PTSD when I had the thought of teaching this to intermediate students.Ā This website has been incredible, I use this every year, I love it and my learners love it to, I would highly recommend using this!
