Direct Instruction

Learning Intention -  Collect data, create a bar graph and analyse your graph.

Each learner will measure their feet and record their measurements on the white board, we follow this by discussing important aspects on analysing data and how to graph our data correctly.

After this discussion on the mat I then sent my learners to work in groups in their rotations.

I then worked with small groups on creating the graph.

The next day we will work through making statements about the graph we created and how to analyse a bar graph.

Reflection

This was a fun and really enjoyable lesson for my learners and a great start to the year doing something a little bit different.  My learners had answered questions about graphs, however, hadn't really made their own graphs before it seemed.  The reason you hear me ask very basic questions to my learners is to try and keep them all engaged as we go through  Once we got working  I normally do my rotations differently, my 4 being, Maths Whizz, Teacher, Follow Up Task, Hyperstudio (Animation Tool).  Next time I would spend more time with groups and gettting them analysing other people graph straight after they've done their ones.  My learners found making a statement about their own graph quite difficult, this is something I will continue to work with my learners on, they got stuck with the correct mathematical terms to use.

Things to note

Next time when teaching a whole class lesson I will put a camera behind me so it'll make the lesson a bit more interactive, as you are unable to see the children as much in this video.
