Direct Instruction

This lesson is based on Jane Considine's sentence stacking lesson. She can be found on YouTube.

Reflection

The children liked the video, they were engaged while watching and encouraged them to write about Dino and Fifi. The different language features we were writing about were not new to the children, which helped their understanding.

The children have been doing sentence stacking for a few years now, every so often so they know the drill when it comes to the different language features. This is a positive while teaching this lesson. Looking back at the lesson, I would have liked to dive deepen into the inner thought. This was the area the children struggled to write about the most.

Things to note

This is one class within our Hub - team Rātā this is an average of 30 children. When the children broke off to work independently I worked alongside some of the less able writers. Most children were able to work independently on this task.
