Direct Instruction

This video is an Art Lesson about Andy Warhol. We are having an Art Exhibition at School for the parents before the end of the year.

This is one piece of Art the children have created. They will have 7 pieces to show the parents.

The children are learning to use Andy Warhol as inspiration to create a piece of artwork using watercolours and acrylic paints.

Reflection

I really enjoyed teaching Art, you sometimes do not get alot of time to teach Art, especially painting and what a fun time the children had. I was pleased with the research I did around creating an Andy Warhol print. I wish we had a screen printer to try with the children, but hopefully they will get to try this at High School. The children responded well to learning about Pop Art, they could describe the bright colours and repeating patterns with good detail, and were all very critical of the different Artworks. I tried to show the process of the while lesson, within the short video it is hard to show the each step in detail. After teaching this lesson, and day two lesson. I went out and ordered more small brushes, this will be sure to help the next rotation. My next steps are to advance those children who show strong painting skills buy challenging them to choose an image with small details. If teaching this lesson again I think it would be good try ink rolling, over their portrait. Like a famous person!

Things to note

This lesson is a series of three lessons. The children will spend a week with me, and then rotate to the next teacher. I will teach this Andy Warhol lesson three times over. Each class has about 30 children.
