Reflection

Teaching a cybersmart lesson on social media to kids was initially challenging. They found the rules confusing—privacy settings, responsible sharing, and online consequences felt like a puzzle. We discussed respectful communication, spotting reliable sources, and keeping personal info safe. By the end, I could see a noticeable change. The kids not only understood the rules better but also realised why they mattered. I believe this lesson was a timely lesson I know I have helped the children navigate the online social media with knowledge and make positive contributions. Now that the children have grasped the importance of rules on social media apps, the next steps involve reinforcing and applying these lessons in their digital interactions. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on activities, such as creating mock social media profiles to practice responsible sharing and setting privacy preferences.

Things to note

In the Tumu Hub we complete a Cybersmart lesson weekly, this lesson was brought upon due to some social issues regarding phones and emailing. The importance of rules not only in person but also online is important. This is a class of 30 children, all 3 teachers in the Tumu Hub taught this lesson. We have 90 children in our Hub.
