Direct Instruction
This video is a Religious Education lesson based around The Catholic Social Teachings, Peace, and Saint Oscar Romero.
The students will
Understand what Peace means by knowing what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like.
Have an understanding of what the nine principles of Catholic Social Teaching are, where they come from, and how we can apply them to our own daily lives.
Understanding that God wants us to live in peace with each other without jealousy and hatred.
Identify ways in which we can live out peace in our everyday lives.
Reflection
As this lesson was a follow-on from the original lesson, it was good to see the children sharing what they knew about the Catholic Social Teachings. It is hard to show the whole process of this lesson due to the time, but the children thoroughly enjoyed creating their crosses. The follow-on from learning about Oscar Romero in the reading workshop worked well with being able to focus on his cross. It was also lovely to find the cross we had been gifted at school and be able to show this to the children. The next steps for the children are to practically be able to put what they know about peace into action.
Things to note
This is one small snapshot of the Religious Education lesson. St Francis of Assisi is a Catholic School and we teach 2 Religious Education Lessons a week, this is my class working on their Share - a part of the process of Learn Create Share.
