This video shows focus on the share component of the Learn Create Share process. This is a reading workshop lesson. 

The learning intention is to use their prior knowledge of profiles and interviews to understand the purpose of the quotes and to infer meaning using context, sentence structure, and word knowledge

Reflection


The children loved this create, they wanted to share it with everyone in the school (we did!) The children were proud of their efforts and the research they did for their end project. The video only shows a small element of the reading breakdown lesson, but this was a long workshop. We questioned each other and the four main people in the Journal story. I am trying to build the children up to lead their own discussion, the focus for this group is extended discussion. 


My next steps are to get this group to lead their own reading discussions, using the extended discussion prompt cards to support them. 

Things to note

This is a reading workshop group, which in the first part of the video shows a smaller group of children working and then at the end shows the end groups coming together. I had to teach this reading workshop in two parts due to Production taking place. This group has 14 children in it, and they are all reading Level 3 and Level 4 Journals. Reading workshops are 30-40 minutes depending on the reading level you are teaching.
