Direct Instruction

This lesson shows tamariki revising their opinion writing and the structure of an opinion text. You will see tamariki sharing their personal opinion text with each other while revising the structure of the piece.

Lesson progresses into the basic skills for presenting.

Tamariki then practice presenting their opinion text with a buddy/small group before sharing with our larger studio.

Reflection

We needed a few extra practice sessions to build our confidence for presenting. Tamariki were confident when sharing with each other but very whakamā when sharing with their tuākana.

This was a great link into our kaupapa matua and showed that the tamariki understood the importance of doing our part in being kaitiaki of te ao mārama.

Things to note

Tamariki had previously constructed their opinions. Their opinions link to our kaupapa matua where tamariki are spreading the word about the importance of conserving our natural resources in everyday life.

Practicing presenting their opinions spread over three sessions. Each session consisted of independent practice, group practice and feedback/feedforward.

Other session focuses were breathing and body language.
