Direct Instruction

This lesson shows tamariki engaging in their small group activity before working independently on their learning site.

Tamariki have a focus sound for each day that also links into their create task. On this day their focus sound was /e/. You will see tamariki making an item that begins with this sound out of play-dough.

Tamariki then share their creations with friends and explain what they have made.

Reflection

Tamariki were engaging very well until the fire drill. Settling them back into learning took its toll as tamariki were part way through completing their independent learn task.

Rereading some of the story and running through the phoneme/grapheme task before going back into independent mahi helped set them up to be successful during independent mahi.

During the phoneme/grapheme and high-frequency kupu section, I noticed that one student was able to instantly recognise these letters/sounds and words.

Things to note.

This lesson was recorded in two parts due to a fire drill. Tamariki did need to revisit part of the pukapuka and watch the video on the learning site once more before creating items beginning with their target sound /e/.
