Direct Instruction
This lesson shows tamariki engaging in their small group activity before working independently on their learning site.
Tamariki then rejoin the kaiako after their independent learn tasks to create a word find on the Discover Education site. Finally, tamariki share their creations with a friend and have them complete the word find contain kete kupu for the Phonics Plus book Tāne and the Bug.
Reflection
A great create task to be used over the coming weeks.
When we arrived at the Discovery Education site, tamariki were very overwhelmed by all of the information. After breaking down the steps that they need to complete, tamariki appeared to be more at ease and were able to engage in the lesson without feeling stressed.
Tamariki followed the lesson well. Adding in the kete kupu took longer than anticipated. Consider this when they are using this create task independently.
Helping tamariki who are not confident in typing by typing their kupu for them and having them read the kupu to me assisted the tamariki in feeling the success of this create task.
