Direct Instruction

In this lesson children are learning to engage their audience in their writing using a variety of sentence starters. The lesson consists of modelling, discussion and student individual work. At the end of the lesson you will see us begin to share back and discuss our writing.

Reflection

The modelling and discussion that happened early in this lesson was incredibly valuable. The children loved co-creating stories and discussing them. I loved the video that we used as it stepped out with simple images six ways to start a sentence. When I noticed across the class was starting with the verb (ing, ly and ed words) was incredibly difficult for the children as it is not a function of the way they talk. This is something we will continue to work on.

Things to note

Apologies for the abrupt ending we got so engaged in the discussion and writing we ran out of time and had to go to morning tea.
