Direct Instruction
In this lesson you will see children working on their novel study of Wind in The Willows. We have been exploring the plot and characters and forming opinions. In this lesson we move to looking at the setting as it is described by the author as we learn to discuss and review text features, interpret figurative language and discuss its impact and describe setting using quotes from the book.
Reflection:
It was good having such a large group with two reading groups working together on the same text. The eagerness and engagement in a challenging text has been very rewarding. This lesson had some good discussion but I felt like there were opportunities to extend the discussion. It loved having the children find and read examples as it was a positive way to share and build related knowledge of settings as a group.
Things to note:
It can be hard to get good camera angles when working on the floor.
