Direct Instruction
In this lesson children children are learning about Tessellation and how it occurs in real life. They looked at examples from around the classroom and found digital examples using the explore tool. We then made connections to the football world cup and create a piece of art using tessellation that shared information we had researched about women's football in New Zealand.
Reflection
This lesson was great as it was a different mix of children and they all collaborated well together. I loved the positivity and the way their descriptions of tessellation improved throughout the lesson. The children enjoyed the real life connections to their maths and figuring out how to effectively tessellate the hexagons. I also found it valuable that the children were building research skill and that they had a link to literacy.
Things to note:
Not all stages of the lesson are shared in the video. The focus was on the collaboration and sharing and how we got their through discussion and new learning.
