Reflection
I found that this was a really good example of what it looks like to produce the school news (PENN). This happens between 8am and 9am so requires committed children who come to school early as well as good time management in order to get the news made and then edited before 9am.
This lesson shows children who have been part of the news team for several years as well as a few children who have only been part of it for a couple of weeks and even one child who was presenting for the very first time.
I would really love to have children responsible for the camera as well as being part of the editing of the news however it is difficult to do this in the short time frame we have to produce the news. Later in the year I will create an episode to show student movie editing in action.
Things to note
Some of these children have been in the school news team for a few years so they are in good routines of how it is done. The Pt England News Network has been part of our school for many many years so if you are planning on starting this up in your school, it would require discussions, planning and support. Elements of this could definitely be used at a classroom level to develop student confidence and support speaking and presenting.
