Direct Instruction
The learning intention for this lesson was to animate a person to walk.
The first video shows the instructions which supported drawing of prior knowledge about digital drawing, revising concepts previously learned and then adding in new learning about how to animate in Photopea.
The second video shows 1 on 1 instruction for children who have reached the step of animating their sprite. Note: This is the first time these children have animated in Photopea.
Reflection
I think I did a good job of ensuring the instructions supported those for whom this lesson was their first one for the year as well as not going on too long or being too repetitive for those children who had already seen me once already this term.
I think it would be more helpful in the future to have better rewindable resources which I can direct students to when they are working independently at the iMacs. I created one however decided not to use it as part of my instruction. Prior to this year, I created a digital curriculums website with the plan to add to it. Adding some rewindable videos for animating in photopea would be a really useful addition to teaching animation in the future for these more senior classes.
Things to note
This group of children had two terms last year learning how to create digital drawings in Photopea. This is their first time animating in Photoea.
This is a half class of children. The class of students come to me and then get split into two groups: Half of the class stay with me in Creative Space while the other half of the class go into the Makerspace with the Makerspace teacher, Jackson Vogt.
