Direct Instruction
The learning intention for this lesson was for students to come up with a topic and research key information about that topic to set as a holiday blogging challenge.
The video shows students choosing topics to learn about during the school holidays. The students needed to choose a topic and then complete research about this topic. They needed to provide useful links for others to be able to complete this research. The lesson shows a whole group instruction on how to complete the task with students sharing their own topic ideas and why at the end of the episode.
Reflection
I think that this lesson went well, the students were really excited about this and being able to choose the topics for the holiday blogging challenge. Some of the topics that the students came up with were really interesting and will make great topics for the holiday blogging. By allowing the students to choose the topics it makes the holiday blogging more appealing to the students. I wanted to make sure that all of the students in our team were represented so I had my colleagues choose few students from each class so that everyone felt involved which was really beneficial.
Things to note
This was filmed during alert level orange where mask wearing was optional which is why some of the students are wearing masks and some of the were not. Unfortunately the microphone was too far away to capture the great whole class discussions that we had so was unable to include this in the lesson. Due to filming this lesson while I was on release the background noise it a lot louder than it normally would be as there were two other classes being taught in the background.
