Parrant Episode 16.mov

Direct Instruction

The learning intention for this lesson was to continue a number pattern by understanding how the pattern was created.

This lesson shows a maths lesson about patterns and how to continue a number pattern by first understanding how the pattern was created. This shows a group lesson where the students are exposed to patterns and how to work out the rule for each pattern. This lesson also shows students working together as a group to complete the follow up task.

Reflection

I think that this lesson went pretty well, the students were really engaged and wanting to learn about patterns. This group of students really love maths and have really enjoyed learning new things this year. They also really love a challenge and can be quite competitive during our maths sessions. I really like the way that they explain how they were able to get the answers that they did and I can see from the start of the year how far they have come with having discussions that take on board other students' strategies and comparing them to their own. They are really letting each other share and are interested in how they got the answer. I was really nervous to film a maths session as I have mostly looked at literacy this year but I was really impressed with how the lesson went and how engaged and excited my learners were with understanding patterns.

Things to note

This lesson was filmed when covid restrictions were lifted so mask wearing is now personal choice for the students and teachers, you will see that some of my students still choose to wear masks during class time and some choose not to. This lesson was filmed not long after I had returned to school from having covid and my class was a bit unsettled which is why there are some random cuts between scenes. I also had lots of technical difficulties with the iPad and my TV but we got there in the end. There was a lot going on around the school during this time so there is a lot more background noise than we would normally see in the classroom as well as the students getting used to me being back at school. There is also a lack of different camera angles from how I set it up as well unfortunately.
