Reflection
I think this lesson went really well, there was a lot going on at school during the filming of this lesson and some of the students were a bit restless during the lesson. But after establishing our group norms again we were able to proceed with the lesson. We had lots of discussion around tsunamis and what we would need to do if there was one in New Zealand. The students were able to use clues from the text to infer meaning with how characters in the story were feeling and also relate this to how they could feel in the same situation. This text lined up really well with our overall topic of the week and the students were able to use the knowledge they had already learnt about Tonga and use this while reading the text. Overall I think this group was really engaged with the text and were able to answer all of the questions and have some great discussions around the answers.
Things to note
This was filmed during alert level orange where mask wearing was optional which is why some of the students are wearing masks and some of the were not. There was also a lot of things happening in the school while we were filming this - getting ready for film festival as well as our art exhibition so there was a lot of excitement in the classroom. Unfortunately I could not use some of the camera angles with what was going on in the background and I did cut a couple of students out of the shots which is why there are some random close ups of students. I didn't double check the camera before I started unfortunately, thats a note for me for next time!
