Lesson 13 Writing with extras.mp4

Direct Instruction: Writing - Changing the Point of View

Students are learning how to write a story from a different point of view. Before asking them to write from a narrators view, they were to become a character in a story. As they are used to writing in the first person , as they often write about events they had participated in it is their story.

This video shows a lesson where I am trying to fill the gaps for those who don't think they can put themselves into the shoes of a particular character.

Extended Plan Here

Reflection: I had fun with this, prior to this particular story one student retold the 3 little pigs and students acted it out. Then we did a hot seat task (I was one of the character so could model this) giving our point of view of what happened.

Things to note: After we completed a fairy tale, we moved into legends from different cultures and countries. Students found this interesting and what to try other legends too.

Changing the Point of View

We are learning to use different point of view in our writing.

We can identify key words and phrases that help portray a particular point of view.

Instructions:

Rewrite a story we have heard (that was told by a narrator) from a particular character's view.

Imagine you are Goldilocks, let's put on a wig with long golden curls. Why is she walking through the forest? What does she find? Why does she go inside? What does she see, hear, smell, taste?

Now try to take her view of the world and rewrite the story.
