Direct Instruction
WALT - How to solve the value of a letter using algebraic equations.
Learners will be working on solving what the value of a letter is in these equations. Students could already solve problems like this: 6š„ = 18
The next step was for them to be able to solve problems like this:
3š„ + 4 = 2š„ + 9
Full credit of this lesson goes to the amazing resource Jonathan Nevalangi made, click here to see the amazing resource!
After the lesson I spent time explaining the activity to my learners.
Reflection
Teaching algebraic equations was new to me. This resource that has been made is fantastic and so easy to follow, my learners loved the thought of learning from other children. My learners had a lot of success in learning about algebraic equations and have made so much progress in this strand. I was really happy with our sharing session at the end of the session, all my learners were engaged, was a great lesson, thanks heaps Jonathan!
Things to note
I did have every person share their answer/thinking which worked really well, however, due to length of video I only put the 1 in. Was great to see their confidence they showed whilst sharing their ideas.
