Direct Instruction
This lesson was a bit different - it's based on maths warm ups you can do with your learners (small groups or whole class).
These are the 4 main warm up games we do in our class. I hope some of these can help in your classrooms.
Times tables is something we work on constantly in our classroom. This gives learners the chance to practise this in a fun environment. I always add 'group points' to learners who are doing well, however, you can add your own incentives if you'd like.
Reflection
My learners love our maths warm ups each day, they enjoy the fun aspect of it and is very engaging (also the chance to win group points). When you do this activity with your kids every day they become use to each game and you can get straight into the warm up. For the dice game I should have just used 2 dice and had them become more confident as they really struggled with the more difficult answers. The bingo activity is great, one of my learners had said we should just use circles on each answer, rather than highlighting each answer as it would be so much easier, we all do this now and my learners find it a lot easier. Around the world is the game we play the most, my learners love it because it's so competitive and they are able to try and get the longest streak.
Things to note
Times for each Warm Up activity.
0.01 - Dice Game
2.03 - I have who has
3.49 - Times Table Bingo
4.59 - Around the world
The filming of these were all a bit interesting, I am using a new microphone which attaches to my camera, so I need that close to me, hence the close up shots that didn't come out as good as I expected. I also gave my learners the chance to run the 'Around the world' game as they are very familiar with this game, this is why I filmed them giving the instructions of the game.
