Should animals be tested on?

The lesson focus today was to take a side of a controversial topic and provide evidence on why you have picked that.

Learners are given multiple different texts to read and will make connections between these to come up with their final opinion based on what they have read.

Students will then record themselves and post on their blog their final thoughts on whether they thing animals should be tested on or not.

Reflection

This was a really interesting lesson to teach. I was surprised with my learners responses, they spoke around empathy for animals but also if animals start dying due to testing there would be nothing left for us to eat. It was great to hear learners ideas before we started reading and then seeing them slowly start building on their opinions with facts that they were learning. This would have been cool to set up a debate and get them rebutting on each others facts. I tried getting learners to share both sides of the argument, however, they ended up feeling to passionately about one side of the argument and not wanting to share the other side.

Things to note

Both websites that were used for reading were great, really informative and created great discussion. Highly recommend doing this lesson with your learners.

I would just like to say a big thanks to everyone that has viewed and given me advice on my lessons throughout the year, have really appreciated it. I always share comments with my learners as well, they feel like superstars, having viewers from all around the world! Thanks once again, happy holidays! See you again next year!

Thanks to Rebecca Spies for the activity!
