Direct Instruction

The lesson focus today was to understand different parts of history and how they relate to us now.

Learners have conversation on prior knowledge.

Learners then read multiple texts and make connections about a main idea. Each learner will choose a different topic they want to learn about, then will share with the group.

Next lesson we will look more into the moon landing and watch videos of the astronauts walking on the moon.

Reflection

I thought my learners may have had some prior knowledge based on this topic, however, only one of them did. He shared his knowledge, my learners were confused as to how the Soviet Union were so far ahead of the USA, however, were intrigued to learn how the USA jumped them and got to the moon first. We had discussions about conspiracy theories and why people may have thought it was 'staged'. This was a great lesson with lots of in depth discussion around multiple ideas.

Things to note

I had accidentally turned the mic on my phone around the wrong way, as you can hear it is quite loud by my other learners at the start. Unfortunately you're unable to hear some of the learners answers in discussion, however, throughout the video it gets better. My other learners were having discussions for their group activities, hence the noise.
