Direct Instruction
The lesson focus today was to understand how the character is feeling throughout different parts of the text.
Learners summarised the text, this was followed with vocabulary activity and finished with hot seating.
In ‘Mitey’ (learning about having a positive mental health) we have been learning about different drama conventions we can use with children, getting them to share their thoughts and feelings. I decided to use this in my reading lessons so students could get a greater understanding of being the character and how they feel in different situations.
Reflection
My learners are really enjoying doing drama in our class and they are getting really good with staying in character. I'm trying to incorporate this in my teaching as much as possible, this adds another element to the lesson, learners were able to be the character and see exactly how the main character feels in different situations.
Things to note
The music volume has been slightly turned down due to viewer feedback. I really appreciate all the positive feedback and constructive criticism. This was a mixed reading level group, I was filming when we had a group out at sport and half of my class was out on a trip.
