The learning intentions for this video are: reading fluently with expression and interpreting a line of text to create an animation using Google Slides.
During this lesson, you will see our whole class preparing to listen to the poem "Pirates" before thinking about what it means to read fluently with expression. Students will also be shown how to use Google Slides to create an animation.
Reflection: Upon editing, I realised how teacher focused this video is and that there is very little direct student response. Surprisingly, in spite of the level of modeling that was needed to teach the step by step process of animation on Google Slides, the students were deeply engaged and excited to be learning something new on their Chromebooks. Many students were very conscious of saying their line with expression in front of others while I was recording them. If I were to do this again, I would have the students record with me in a space without other students present.
Important to Note: This was filmed during a time of year when we had many students away due to illness. So those who were in class more, were obviously able to do more. We are still working on expressive reading, and it is very evident that some students are still learning to perfect ways to do this.

Instructions
As a group, we will have a discussion about pirates as computational thinkers before listening to Mrs Moala read aloud the poem "Pirates." We will then learn how to use the Explore Tool and Google Slides to create an animation.
