Direct Instruction:
The learning intentions for this video are: writing to describe a gingerbread house, constructing their house using their writing and editing their writing to include more detail as they continue to build in their Minecraft world.
During this lesson, I introduced gingerbread houses by reading "Hansel and Gretal" aloud the the class. Then, we discussed using description to write a desciptive paragraph about a gingerbread house. Students then shared a little of what they had written before finding out that they were going to be building their houses in a Minecraft world.
Reflection: This was such a fun way for us to end our year. This is the first time we have used Minecraft for Education in our Year 4 classrooms this year, and the students were so excited to have an opportunity to create in this way. It was great to see the students who generally struggle to write feel energised to complete their writing task so that they could have a go at creating using Minecraft.
Please Note: There is singing heard during a short clip when students are sharing due to the junior school practicing their item for our school prizegiving on the stage outside our classroom.
