Direct Instruction
The learning focus for this lesson was for children to be able to discuss or explain what happened when vinegar and baking soda come together.
This is a whole class lesson done as a part of our Everyday Science Inquiry. The children are guided through using the Explain Everything app to draw and explain the chemical reaction that took place during our 'Erupting Volcano" experiment.
Reflection: It has been really fun to teach something so hands on and engaging such as Science this term. The children were so excited by this experiment and were able to see the chemical reaction that took place right in front of their eyes. I was really impressed with the way that they picked up and used the Explain Everything app for this task. It was a great way of seeing children's understanding of the learning behind this Inquiry.
Things to note: Our Inquiry this term is around Everyday Science and the connection this has with our everyday lives. This has involved the children taking part in lots of hands on experiments. Prior to this lesson we had gone out and made 'volcanos' in our school sandpit.
