Direct Instruction
The learning intention for this lesson is learning to craft our own autobiographies based on the Little People, Big Dreams Books.
The children will need to understand what is an autobiography and be able to use the Little People, Big Dream template to support their autobiography.
Reflection
This is a fun lesson for the children, they really enjoyed looking back at their lives and what dreams they might have had and how these have already changed. They were able to use the template of Little People, Big Dreams really well, and in the video, you can see how some of the children have become their autobiography. A lot of support went into these children who struggle to generate ideas, it was hard to pull out the important events in their life when you haven’t been around all the long. Placing a clear scaffold on the board, supported those children who need to follow a clear structure. We stopped and brainstormed so many different items or events that took place and this supported the learning that took place. Every afternoon we choose one biography from the Little People, Big Dreams Treasury and read about someone who started with a small dream.
