Direct Instruction
This video shows the children of Tumu becoming Scientists and filming themselves investigating an area of Space they wanted to learn more about. Either Forces in Sport or Astrometry.
The children are learning to create a captivating, informative video.
Reflection
This term’s learning around Space was very successful. The topic of “Our Place in Space” was broad enough for the children to come away with some great scientific knowledge of Space. As we used the whole term to expose and teach different elements in Space the children gained knowledge weekly and this was great to see them building on this. As soon as we told the children we were going to make a YouTube video for our Tumu Channel the children were buzzing. The engagement was high, and because we were able to narrow the field into two different topics, but within that, they were able to go further afield into what interests them about one of those areas. Having a clear structure (planning template) helped the children narrow their findings, keeping them interesting but also informative at the same time. The videos that are most successful are when the children have used different angles, shots or voice-over techniques to make you want to watch their videos. As you can see in the teaching video, the children were so proud to present their project to parents and grandparents. We received great feedback from the parents, not only on their child's video but across the hub of children.

Learning Intention
We are learning to create a video that is captivating, and informative. We will do this by using iMovie storyboard.
