Reflection
The children had a good understanding of what a shelter is prior to this lesson, and this made it exciting to find out more about what it takes to survive in the wild. I drew on the children's prior experience to build on what else can be used to support in making a shelter. The reading workshop group I had needed further support, to pull out key information, and understand certain vocabulary. I knew my group of children in my workshop needed movement and demonstration as to what some of these problems and hazards look like in the wild and this was why I chose to get the workshop group up and role play what this looks like. The children showed a good understanding of the key points from the reading and enjoyed their new learning around shelter building.
Things to note
This is a reading workshop group, the remanding children in the Tumu Hub were working either attending a workshop or working independently.
