Making Inferences
The Learning Intention for this lesson was to use the evidence from the text and students' prior knowledge to make inferences. Teaching students how to infer, unpacking that process and giving them opportunities to practise inferring helps them think critically about what they read and understand texts better.
Reflection:
During this lesson, I intentionally kept their focus on identifying the key information and thinking of their own knowledge to make inferences. The students stayed engaged during the entire lesson and did a lot of reading and thinking. Reflecting back, I might have brought a real banana and a couple of photographs to generate a deeper initial discussion about the topic. Overall, I believe that the students did really well with the learning intention.
